The Pain Box

What if there were a box
Right at our front door
That said "Put all your pain here
If you don't want it anymore."

How happy we would be
Of all our pain to be set free
But then I wonder if
We would be the same you and me?

Pain has helped to shape us
To be the people we've become.
What would we have been without pain
Without a single one?

Would we have empathy for those in childbirth
Or understand when someone's migraine hits?
What about the mother who is saddened
When her child had epileptic "fits"?

I am no fan of heartache
And I hate to be in pain,
I can see how it has brought growth
But I don't wish it back again.

God has promised us a pain free Heaven
And I guess I must wait until then to see
How we all will enjoy forever
A pain free eternity.

Unfortunately and fortunately it's a tough truth to face! Pain shapes us even when it's the pain of shame and disgrace.
