Thanks For the Tools



A gift he has given,

through the tools in his hand.

Schooled in utility,

taught how to be a man.



His tools were his gift,

they gave lessons in life.

How to mentor your sons,

and provide for your wife.



These tools they have made us

Sons. carpenters three.

From swinging that hammer,

while there at his knee.



As a boy I would wake,

outside at the dawn.

A wrench to my bike,

soon lost in the lawn.



His tools came from Grampa.

And many he bought.

Through his hands and his mind,

such beauty they wrought.



But now that he's older,

These tools are set down.

Still these lessons go on,

Their message profound.



For his tools now are patience,

tolerance through strife.

Perserverance and kindness.

A good Christian life.

I love the story you gently walked me through. The most vivid picture you gave me was the stanza:
As a boy I would wake,

outside at the dawn.

A wrench to my bike,

soon lost in the lawn.

I don't know how many times my boys have lost my tools in the lawn. It made me laugh, and it made me shed a tear at the end. Because, I hope my boys end up with the tools that you speak of in the last stanza. Nice work!

My favorite image from this poem is:SWINGING THAT HAMMER WHILE THERE AT HIS KNEE. A small boy learning a craft without even knowing it.

I am so sorry to hear about your father. It is hard for us left behind to be without them, but he so is exceedingly happy right at this moment as Jesus welcomes him home with a warm embrace.

This a very profound piece indeed, I love the imagery you painted in mind with the words you used, and how the life of a man should be.

I am very sorry to hear about your father, if he was like the man in this piece then for sure he was a role model. But do not grieve for he is now with our Father in Heaven, Praising His name with freedom and love in his heart. And, no doubt, he is cheering you on in this life.
