Playtime With Puppy
The kids have a new puppy
And they promised (crossed their hearts)
That to take care of the little bundle of cuddly fur
They would do their part.
The first day was fine and dandy
(We kept the mop really handy)
And each thing she did was so cute
They didn't even mind cleaning up the ....
(well, you know)
But when bedtime came and lights went out
Little puppy began to cry.
And not one of the kids who had promised devotion
Showed any motion or even opened one eye.
When the kids went off to school
The task feel entirely to me
So when they got home I reminded them
Of what their duties would be.
They played with the pup all through the day
And seemed to be having a blast
I felt that they had learned their lessons
And the neglect was a thing of the past.
When all the family had gone to bed
And were sleeping as sound as could be
I discovered the toys used by the kids
Were things that belonged to me.
There were holes in hose (I still wear those)
And my wool slacks had a bite in the knee
While my loafers now had a raggedly trim
And I stepped in a puddle of pee...
