Whitewashed
I got to church early and sat in my car to pray and read the Bible while I waiting for the doors to be opened. I looked around the church at the neighborhood and saw an unpleasant sight. On the sidewalk across from our church was graffiti in huge black letter proclaiming “EVIL”.
“How awful!” I thought to myself, that someone would deface this property. The word was scrawled in such a way that it really did seem to depict the evil that it proclaimed.
“Someone should whitewash over that part of the curb, I thought. No, that wouldn’t cover such ugliness; it would have to be painted, my mind continued or else the dark black paint would just bleed right through.”
That’s when the Holy Spirit brought to my spirit the realization that that’s what Jesus saw when He looked down at the ugliness of the sin the world. How we had defaced what He had created in beauty and perfection. He would not try to whitewash over all the ugliness for that would not cover all the sin. Like the ugly black paint on the sidewalk, the sin would bleed through. No, nothing would do but the Blood of Jesus. Nothing else could cover our sin or wash us clean form all the stain. That why He had to die for us; to shed His precious blood. That’s why there is power over the enemy in Jesus Blood.
Thank you God
For the lessons available
In everyday scenes around us
Thank you Father
That when we were lost,
You found us.
Thank you for loving us
In spite of our sins and stain,
Thank you Father
For the power of Jesus Blood,
And the right to use His Name.
