Trailing Thought

The small slit
Of light ‘bout
To open the
Day

The chill
Fills my skin
My cheeks
First

My opening step
Of soft, silent
White
‘Bout a foot deep

Knocking off
The evergreen clumps
Of clinging snow
Whispers the wind

The shiny star
Sparkles, a life
Away, heavens
Sign of Bethlehem

A glowing lamp to my
First glance, a three-
Legged critter
Escaped a trap

I can only imagine
Where he is going
I’ll follow for
A bit

After writing the poem I began to wonder if I was the story teller or the injured critter in the poem. I assumed I was the one taking in the beautiful day alone in the snowy forest but then I realized I could be the wounded, wondering if anyone was following my trail.

Kinda funny how those things work, eh?
