The Last Square

When people laugh
At how square
Folks used to be
They have forgotten
That there is still
Me!
I hear the laughter
Of how quaint and strange
Are old timers and dinosaurs
Whose thoughts
Should be retrained
And priorities rearranged.
I sometimes feel I'm alone
(And not just because
I don't own an iphone...)
When I don't see the point
Of ugly words in daily use
And the prominent abuse
Of God's holy name
And seeing Christians
Getting so much blame
For anything that goes wrong
In our world around us
While we see the evil
That tries to surround us.
Lord help me to stand firm
being steadfast each day in prayer
Perhaps seeming to be
The world's last remaining square...

Last night I called my friend Betsy
A friend from back when we were young-
Someone with whom I had so much fun.
We shared the joys of new motherhood
Watching our babies learn to crawl and stand
Walking together with babies holding our hands...
Even though it had been 30 years or so
Since our last visit together,
It was if we had only be away
Since yesterday or perhaps the day before.
It was so wonderful to chat and catch up
With us having to pause to catch a breath
As we giggled and shared as women love to do.
I bet you have a friend who would love a call
From you.
