Like a lost little kid

I drank with the demon and I've partied with the beast

I've allowed myself to drown from the west-side to the east

I can't quite remember just how long I was deceased

but I remember it like yesterday...the day I was released




I remember cryin' to the Lord on the day I was set free

I hung my head low, but I didn't cry for me

I cried out for my mama to please come back

Not to leave me all alone in a world so black

and as my mama lay lifeless, her body cold on the floor

then and there I swore that I'd waste my life no more

because I know that she loved me to her very last breath

I let her down in life, I wouldn't let her down in death

No more would she see me drinkin', no more puff-puff-pass

and no more teary-eyed visits from behind the glass

and no more puttin' money on my jailhouse books

And that's when I knew God's plan may not be how it looks

because lookin' back on it, she faced the same sad tomorrow

The same days as mine, days of pain, days of sorrow

because we battled the same beast and we faced the same demon

and when we were drowning in that bottle, it was Christ who heard us screamin'

It was Christ who showed us mercy, it was Christ who set us free

By having mercy on my mama...Christ had mercy on me



I still miss my mama like a lost little kid

She would have died for me, and in a way, she did
