I Can Do That

It was a government office
Where I worked for a number of years
I had my share of laughter
And my share of tears.

I went home many nights
Frustrated to the core
With things that seemed unfair
And I didn't want to do it anymore.

But I kept on with the task
That God seemed to have given me
Longing for the day
When He would set me free.

I didn't preach to my co workers
Like the pastor that I admired
(Well, saying the wrong things
Has a way of getting one fired)

I tried my best to be a good worker
And be a friend to others each day
Being helpful and compassionate
To those God sent my way.

I tried to always speak the truth
And admit when I made mistakes
Didn't abuse my time off
Or take too long lunchtime breaks.

It was just living my daily life
Being a Christian as I was taught
Thankful to my loving Savior
That with His blood my life was bought.

When time finally came that I could leave
Some folks I had to deal with each day
Said they never knew what a Christian was
Until I came their way.

They said they had been confused
About what God would expect them to be
And that just left them flat
But when they saw my daily walk

They said "I know I could be like that!

They said they never saw me preach
About what others were doing wrong
But they saw my smile at co-workers
That lasted all day long.

They said they now knew
It just took a simple start
That involved a change of attitude
And a softening of the heart.

God can use our simplest action to bring others to Him when He has prepared their heart.

Wow, simple and profound at the same time. Beautiful message full of God's Glory! Love it!

You never know who is watching and what the questions in their hearts may be.

These ladies were fearful that becoming a Christian would mean going out and cornering people and preaching to them and they felt that was something they couldn't do. Then they said they saw it could be as simple as living your life in a Christian way and they thought that was something they could do.

A great lesson for Christians and non-Christians alike.

And everyone knows how exceedingly far from perfect I am. It was really humbling to think that even with all my imperfections, God could still use me. Reminded me of the story of the cracked water pot and how flowers grew along the path from the well due to water coming out of the pot.

Sometimes we, as Christians, only see our faults and shortcomings and we remind ourselves of them over and over. God uses us even when we don't see how He can...

That's so true. It just makes me think of how creative our Lord is. He can make things grow anywhere. We never know where we might be leaking.

And gracious knows that we old folks leak a lot more...lol

What a sermon you preached before those ladies. The strongest sermon we can preach is the testimony we walk out in the world. Beautiful words.

I had a boss for quite awhile that wasn't kind to me. I could count on the fact that anything that went wrong was my fault. I prayed for God to get me out of there and each morning my verse for the day seemed to begin with "endure" I began to call it the "E" word.

One morning my boss said she had tried to find my phone number the night before while at the hospital. They had taken her little boy in and she needed God's help but didn't know how to reach Him but knew that I did.


Eventually I did get out of there and on to another office...and another challenge. God doesn't keep us from life's difficulties, but He gets us through them. We have to remember that He sees the big picture and we only see life from the part of the picture we are in at the moment.

Your words are so true. Holding on for the last half hour is the most difficult. We never know how God will use a terrible situation for his good. I have been in plenty places that I did not want to be but God used them for his glory.
