Aging

Age

I told my once strong legs to walk swiftly
But they seemed to not want to walk at all
So I gave up going to shop at the mall.
I told my eyes to read the words in print
And although that was their intent
Far too much time was spent
squinting and struggling
So I gave up that fun night time
good book snuggling-
No more reading in my bed
until time to be a sleepyhead.
I told my hands to open jars
and turn knobs with no pain
And there my body failed again...
What is this thing that old age does,
this thing that creeps up on us
and turns us into old folks
before we know it?
And how come some age
so beautifully
and never show it?
I cannot stop all of the things
that age may do to me
But I pray
that it in spite of it all
My heart, soul, spirit,
the inner me
Will age beautifully.

This is Just My Bodysuit

When God sent us to the earth
In the miracle we call birth
He housed our soul and spirit carefully
In a bodysuit that we could see.

It’s not that important to eternity
For we won’t have to wear it there
When we shed the earthly form
And meet Him in the air.

Some body suits are beautiful
While some others may consider plain
But it’s the spirit housed inside
That will God’s Heaven gain.

My bodysuit is wrinkled now
And my hair is turning gray
But it just reminds my spirit
That it’s closer to flying away!
