| Sharing the Light By Scott Newport
Spring seems so far away For many, after This past week when Young lives were lost To the daffodils’
“One flower, one stem, One flower, one stem,” Repeated The marching grey clouds Of December
The swirling, flowing flowers Overcrowding a familiar hill Out east and seemingly On the other side of life- A slope no one wants to touch But we’ll eventually breathe someday
The others peek Over the neatly cut hedges From their warm encrusted souls Heated by the sun- Warming their soil
And by the way, As if they didn’t know It’s the same light Shared With those yellowing daffodils

| Thanks Lora, I wonder now, today, how many have already forgotten about those children. Kinda funny how that works, eh? Most of the poems I write are about things that are hard for me to talk about. If it’s an easy topic I’ll write a story in essay form. Gota love the gift of writing, sure beats the cost of meds or a long expensive talk. Your buddy Scott Here is another one of my poems about something I didn’t’ want to talk about out loud. Pressure By Scott Newport
The kind that comes From a chair leg pressing Amidst a kitchen atmosphere Or thin leather shoes With socks bunched up
Even weighted to the Bottom of a lake Thick with mud Stuck with Vacuum pressure
Or the fact your Expected to sink Into a society Molding you into Something only Pressure can shape
“Is that really How diamonds Are formed?”

| Many people may have let what happen to those children slip from their minds as they continue with their daily lives, but the Lord hasn't. I'm certain he's got them wrapped up in his arms and playing like they never have before.
And, I know what you mean about how therapeutic writing can be. I think that's what made me fall in love with it in the first place. It brought about much healing once I got it out on paper and let others read it. Then I realized that there is something even more fulfilling about writing than I had initially realized: Once we express what we are feeling and how we coped with it through writing and then let others read it, it can help bring healing to others and we realize we're not so alone in our pain. |
