I Remember Mom Quilting..
By lamplight at first
I remember Mom sitting there
In her favorite chair
with needle and thread
Piecing together fabric
to make a coverlet for my bed.
Later we had electric lights
which made it easier,
I know
For the tiny needlework
she did for us
In the quilts
that she would sew.
Years went by
and many scraps
made their way
From things Mom
made for me to wear each day
Into covers large and small,
pieces of art they were
That never hung on our wall
But had places of honor
on each bed
Mom kept us warm,
Dad kept us fed!
