How do I get my book listed on Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.com?

Many subsidy publishers will list your book in at least one of the major distribution channels which will make your book available to Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com and other online retailers as part of their publishing package. If you are using a subsidy publisher check to see if they offer this service. If they do they will take care of the listing for you.

If your subsidy publisher does not offer that service or you are self publishing then you still may be able to list your book with them.

If you are self publishing and using Lightning Source as your PoD printer or use Lulu.com's ISBN Plus package then your book will be listed in Ingram's distribution channel which will make it available to Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com as well as any other online retailer that uses Ingram. Having your book listed in Ingram does not guarantee that your book will be picked up by Amazon or Barnes and Noble though as it is up to the retailer whether or not they will list your book.

If you are not using a company that offers this service there are still ways to get your book listed.

You must have an ISBN number for your book in order to be listed by any online retailers.

Amazon.com offers a program called "Amazon.com Advantage" that will allow you to sell your book through their website. It is free to join this program.

In order for your book listed at Barnes and Noble.com you must first become listed as a "Vendor of Record" with their warehouse.

If you find that your book is listed by either Amazon.com or BarnesandNoble.com but they are not displaying the cover image or description you can submit them.

I am hand-binding and hand-sewing my book. I have gotten very positive feedback from all that have bought my book. I find it very rewarding to produce the book 100%. I know that I have to have an ISBN number to go to a larger market. I have found ways to decrease on paper and materials so it costs very little to produce my book and I am keeping a greater profit. I just need to have help getting it out in the market place.

Wow, that is so cool! How do you do it? How complicated is it? It would be pretty neat if other authors knew how to do that too. Are there step-by-step instructions that people can get somewhere?

It is a long story.. We had our own trucking business when I was writing this book. My husband has been in the trucking business for over 30 years. We had been in our business for about 2 years. I was his broker and side-kick for the business. I am from the printing industry. I worked for a Japanese printing company in American. I found a publisher and I was going to self-publish and peddle the book at local craft shows. Approximately 3 years ago my husband fell off the roof. They did not think anything was broke but after about 2 weeks it was found out that he had to have emergency hip surgery. So I had to put my book on hold. I worked for a month preparing a query letter with promotional ideas , my biography, synopsis of the book and a comparison of books that this book would compete with in the marketplace. I sent it to five agents. Of course by being a nobody I did not get a nibble just rejections. I knew that God woke me up in the middle of the night to write each meditation in the book. I knew that he wanted it published. I also knew that Satan would do everything to prevent this book from reaching out to others. I prayed. I got on you tube and watched 3 or 4 tapes in French showing how to hand sew and hand bind a book. I made my husband watch and he built me the loom that I use to sew my book. The book is approximately 190 pages. It has seventeen sections that I sew together. The first 20 books were experimental. I have learned to cut cost and have found a very good source for ink. Since Thanksgiving I have made approximately 150 books. If I had orders I could have produced many more. It is very rewarding. Each book is prayed over and blessed. I sell the book at local stores, on artfire and I support america.com. I would love to reach a larger market. I have gotten positive feedback from everyone and many have requested a book to give as a gift. I have repaired several old books for people that I know also. I would be happy to show anyone how to do this. It is not nearly as difficult as it seems.
