| Nebuchadnezzar
A beast I’d become
Thinking all lived
And breathed by me
My City so proud
Stretching far as
The eye could see
My word as a God
Speaking dreams
Into fact for me
Ripe for a fall.
A dream spoiled my sleep
Of a broad and
Capacious tree
Shelter for all
And a roost for
Each bird I’d see
Cut to the ground
Save a trunk
Of ignominy
Pride’s nasty fall.
The beast came to me
Stripped a King
Of his sanity
Off to the wilds
So the sad rantings
None might see
Just like an ox
In the dews
As that toppled tree
Til wisdom came.
And I’m just a man
Whom the God
Of eternity
Brought to his knees
So the pomp and
The pride might see.
Daniel was right.
Chastened now
I am washed and free.
Praise to God’s name.
