Mary

This came to me as I was contemplating the moment Jesus revealed himself to Mary at the empty tomb. It's one of my favorite moments of scripture.

Mary

I came to the tomb hopeless and afraid
I’d lost my very life with him that day
He was my reason for living
Now I had nothing at all
All I could do was go to the tomb and pray

I got there and he was nowhere to be found
I listened but still I heard no sound
Who would have taken his body?
What use could it be to them?
So I asked the man who was just standing around


Then He Said “Mary”
Simply said “Mary”
And that’s all it took to open my eyes
All at once I realized
Who it was that stood before me now
When He said “Mary”
Softly said “Mary”
I looked at him with tears in my eyes
They overflowed and I began to cry
I feel to my knees and I cried “Rabboni”

I realized all he had said was true
He died, but here he was alive and new
He was the promised Messiah
I had no doubt in my mind
I just looked up at Him for that was all I could do


When He said “Mary”
Sweetly said “Mary”
He took all my doubts threw them away
All my fear was gone that day
He gave me new life and set me free
When he said “Mary”
Said my name “Mary”
And now I know forever
In Him my hope will be
And I knew it all the moment
He said “Mary”
