Toby, Take It to 'Em


He had a fever. Aching all over. Stomach very questionable. His Manager had ensured a closed off corridor to get him through airport security. There were fans here…..lots of ‘em.

Fans…sort of missed the whole point. He knew that they were looking for fun, for an experience. His music was intended as a courier of the post. The beat, the contemporary choice of words, the hook of pleasing rhyme, the message of identifiable challenges and victories in the crusade for Jesus in one’s life and in community.

But now it was simply off to the hotel adjacent to the Hall to get something good and settling into his stomach. Let’s give it a try. His Mom’s old trick of fat- free cottage cheese, mandarins and ginger ale. She would be there tonight. Home town only an hour and a half drive away.

He had sent her an email attachment with a test track of the new song. Her response had been characteristic:

“Take it to ‘em, Tobe, just as if it might be your last chance with many. Remember also that our Lord employs many hidden agencies. Lest we get lifted up. Love. Still your biggest fan. I think this one raises the bar.”
