Identity at the foot of the cross (Part one)
I took on a roll
But did it really make me whole?
My crisis is not that of an existential nature
but of identity.
You see, their voices cry "freedom"
But their same old hymes sing "conform"
Now, I understand there is a higher calling,
an achievement to be made.
But when stripped of our human condition,
where is our identity made?
Because it has been preached that we are to be
a representation of Jesus
But does this mean we have all just been
nailed down to play a part in this Christian facade?
We have been told we are all unique
But when standing at the foot of the cross,
What does that really equate?
Are we all just striving for
an identical identity?
A reflection of perfection?
To gain the personality traits of a man we named Saviour?
We have been told that as Christians.
we are unique and stood out in a crowd.
But in a crowed church service,
where do our differences really lie?
Is our identity determined by gifts and talents alone?
Because as far as I can see,
our character traits are to be a clone!
Conditioned to repent of our own opinions
and share those of our brothers and sisters in Christ.
What we love and what we hate, likewise.
So standing at the foot of the cross,
what is your identity?
We have been told that our identity lies in Christ,
so does that then mean we are all identity identical?
Heavenly Identity (part two)
So brothers and sisters, do you concur?
For you see I must conclude.
That our identity is made up of values for the greater good.
Gifts and talents wrapped up in out DNA
Values and opinions in the Godly Three.
While here, with God out values must adhere.
For our identity given, is purpose driven.
When you come to Christ,
you are born new.
And now, you are not of your own,
but of Christ Jesus alone.
When in Heaven out status will prevail
but while here on earth we must be real.
See, we have been given a task,
to shepherd the lost and answer those who ask.
So standing at the foot of the cross,
what is your identity?
You see, there was once a man who hung on a tree,
and now He claims that I AM FREE!
Our earthly identity lies in the communication tools that have been sewn into us.
Its about making a difference to those
we were set out to unchain.
What the world is missing is who you've always longed to be,
To be a fire starter following your identity muse.
You see, the Father has claimed my identity
And now He's grafting me into His sons DNA
making my gifts and talents
part of the righteous unity.
I am now what I always will be,
united with Him and blessed with Heavenly Identity.
