MY VISION
by Jan Phillips
I got up to go to work just as I had many times before, but this day
somehow seemed different than the previous ones. As I stood gazing in the mirror, it seemed my soul was so dark and black and I couldn't figure out why as I thought I had been so good. And as I stood there gazing at my dark soul, I cried out "Oh God, why is my soul black? What have I done to displease you so? I know I am not the greatest person in the world, but am I really that bad? You said that if I but asked you, you would take my sin away and cleanse me once again. Please, Lord, help me get back to you." And as I prayed, I noticed in the mirror my soul began to lighten and in the background I could barely see a cross with some poor person hanging there in agony. And as my soul began to become lighter, I could see the blood pouring from his wounds and the more he bled, the lighter my soul became until his spirit left him and my soul was white once more. And as I continued to watch in the mirror the scene playing out before me, I realized that the only thing that cleansed my soul was the blood of my Lord Jesus. So then I could go on my way once again being in the Light, but as I looked once more I saw the people carry my poor Lord's body away and I was so sad that he was gone and the light left me and I was standing there in the mirror all alone. Then I saw the tomb where my savior had lain and the rock was rolled away and I saw Jesus walking in the mist and he spoke to me from the mirror and said "See me now, I am the living God. I gave my blood to save mankind and I have returned so that you and all those about you will know that there is life after death if you will come through me. I have paid the ultimate price. I love you dearly." As suddenly as the vision had come, it was gone and I was once again seeing the walls of my bathroom with my reflection in the mirror. I know now that even though I can not see him beside me, I will always feel him and know that he is with me because I am a child of the living God and because Jesus paid my price I will live on into eternity dwelling in the house of God with my savior Jesus Christ. I will never see myself the same in the mirror again.
