Chosen Last
When he came home from school
His mother knew it right away
Something had gone wrong
While he was at school that day.
She waited until at last
Her child would choose to speak
And as he spoke big salty tears
Splashed down his trembling cheek.
She leaned close with listening ear
Waiting with loving heart to hear
And when the tears were finally past
She heard his whispered
" I was chosen last...."
Oh, how sharp the pain she felt
'Twas if it had just been yesterday
That she too had cried while saying those words
"I was chosen last to play"...

God bless the child
Who's chosen last
Who can't hit the ball as hard
Or can't run as fast!
God bless the child who stands and waits
And looks longingly at closing gates
That welcome other kids in first
Oh bless their hearts and heal their hurts!
Lord bless the child
Who feels sadness and shame
That no one wants
To call their name
Lord bless the child who 's chosen last
And let those disappointments be in the past
And let each child, no matter what their previous hurts
Know the joy of being chosen first!

God Doesn't Choose Us Last
All of you that suffered so
In present times or past
Do not despair
For God was there
And He never chooses last!
Before the land and sea God made
And before the earth was done
God knew just who we would be
He knew us every one!
Every seed God plants on earth
And every baby girl or boy
He knew about before the world was made
And His creation caused him joy!
Men on earth may choose you last
May cause you hurt and tear
But you were created by the hand of God
And He holds you, oh so dear.
And not a single child of God
No matter what man may say
Was least in the sight of God above
Or last chosen in any way!
