My Country

Oh, if only I could hold you in my arms
And wipe away all hurt and tears
Empty your heart and soul of fears
If only I could hold you in my arms...

My tears flow freely down each cheek
And my voice quivers when I speak
As I hear the news again today
Of another soul that's gone astray...

What causes this senseless violence
When did we lose all innocence
In our country where love once flourished
But now where hatred seems to be nourished.

Thank God for those who still love one another
Each kindness shown from brother to brother
Each tear shed for those who are lost
And prayerful tributes for heroes lives lost.

My country how I pray for you
I pray each day and night for you
Asking God to see us through
As only our Heavenly Father can do.
