Should Christians avoid getting involved in all of the bipartisanship and craziness in government? Or, should they pull get in there and fight the good fight? Tell us what you think and why.

As someone engaged in politics, my answer is yes, we MUST mix.

1. We are commanded to pray for our government, to submit to our government and to participate in process (I.e. Tax, legal system)
2. All authorities are God-appointed - so if God's involved, surely He calls His people to support His work on earth?
3. Many of God's elect in the scriptures were used in politics (Jospeh, Daniel, Joseph of Arimathea, Herod's Finance Officer) and we are called to stand up for the oppressed, be the head and not the tail etc.

Should we picket abortion clinics? Never. That does not demonstrate love. But we should push for policies that are pro-family, pro-bible, pro-educational equality. Should we demonise Palestinians? No, it doesn't reflect Jesus' approach to outsiders. But we must ensure that both sides are heard and that policy is fair and biblical.

We can't do that without getting involved - sending letters to congress (C.S. Lewis suggests this en masse changes things); engaging in campaigns; lobbying; writing and even running for local, state, federal and international positions.

Having said all that, it was C.S. Lewis who advised us of the most powerful political act we could perform: "save the souls of man"

Those are my thoughts, anyway :)

A Pew Research study found that Christian groups do the most lobbying in Washington. It is good to see that Christians have a hand in influencing U.S. lawmakers.

"The number of religious groups lobbying in Washington D.C. has grown five times larger from 1970 to today, according to a Pew report released Monday."

"The number of lobbyists grew from only 40 religious advocacy groups in 1970 to nearly 200 today. The growth has accounted for 1,000 jobs in the Washington D.C. area."

"The study found that just under $400 million is spent annually by the lobbyists to influence lawmakers on more than 300 issues, according to the study."

"The report found that most religious advocacy is done by Christian groups."

“'The study finds that about one-in-five religious advocacy organizations in Washington have a Roman Catholic perspective (19%) and a similar proportion are evangelical Protestant in outlook (18%), while 12% are Jewish and 8% are mainline Protestant,'” the report said."
