I dreamed I saw St. Romero
Down in El Salvador
Celebrating the Eucharist
Hearts yearning for much more

He saw his people suffering
The rich grind down the poor
He spoke out for their freedom
Can’t protect him anymore

He prayed for God to bless them
Chalice raised above his head
The shooter raised his gun up high
Aimed and shot him dead

The killer he served Babylon
What else could he do 
The things that priests were saying
Was an inconvenient truth

I dreamed I saw St. Romero
His blood ran to the ground
It fertilized and refreshed
The land and everything around

In that place there grew a tree
The birds came from the air
Built on the blood of martyrs
God’s church is rooted there
