Missed Blessings Empty
PostSubject: Missed Blessings   Missed Blessings EmptySun Nov 18, 2012 4:56 pm

I live in the country and sitting outside on my enclosed porch with a cup of coffee in the early morning is one of my most favorite things to do. I think of how blessed I am. I am surrounded by God’s creative handiwork.

One morning, while sipping a cup of steaming coffee, I watched the day get brighter. As the morning sun came alive the bird calls got louder and they became more active as they flew from tree to ground and back to tree in search of a fresh breakfast. Humming birds jetted in and out, hovering over the feeder before drinking, watchful of any territorial attacks.

The beautiful blue streaks across my vision line were the Eastern Bluebirds. We have had many generations of them living in our backyard. They took up residence in a large multi-unit bird house we put up to encourage Purple Martins to live in hoping they would take on the job of mosquito control in lieu of rent. But the blue birds decided they liked living in condo lifestyle and never left the neighborhood.

Even after the fledglings have graduated to flight school and no longer use the nests, they still hang around the bird house. Sometimes there are so many young birds attempting to sit on the house at one time that squabbles erupt. I guess they feel very safe there and are reluctant to get far from it.

Sometimes I am like the blue birds wanting to “hang around” places where I feel safe, not wanting to get out of the comfortable areas of my life. That does lessen the risks, but we miss so many things; new opportunities, new careers, new friends, and most of all…new blessings.

When we know God is leading us to “move” in some way, whether it’s concerns a new job, house, career or church, we can trust Him for it to be a good move for us. That can be a very scary thing, but God has assured us that He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5b) and as any loving parent wants to give the best to his or her children, how much more does our Heavenly Father want to bless us with things that are good for us (Matthew 7:11). Notice I said “things that are good for us” not just good things. Remember, just as we govern what is best for our children, God does even more so for us as His children.

The next time you feel God’s leading in your life concerning something specific and you are reluctant to obey, think of what you may be missing, and think of what others connected to you may miss.

Just a Thought--
If there was a room that contained all of your missed blessings and you could peek inside, how high do you think those missed blessings would be?

Excellent message, right on "spot" took a long time for me to venture beyond "the brook" and i'll admit to having been terrified to step out of a comfort zone!
"Notice I said...things that are good for us, not just good things."
YES, YES...emphatic, YES, what a breathe of fresh air and a blessing!
