Dads are often neglected
On holidays and such
We sometimes forget
That their hearts deserve our touch.
We forget that Dads have tears
That sometimes need be shed
Tears of blessed sweet relief
Over gentle things we've said.
Every dad needs to be allowed
To shed sweet tears of joy
Over knowing of the love
From his own dear girl or boy!

Dad, I wish that I had known you
Sometimes life just doesn't seem fair
That we don't get to meet on earth
Those for whom we would so dearly care.
I know from what I hear of you
That I would have loved you so much!
There is such an emptiness inside me
From never knowing your smile or touch.
Every child needs a father's guidance
And the discipline that a father hands out
And every child needs the joy of knowing
That their father loves them without a doubt.
I do not know the reason
That this was not meant to be
But there will be a special joy in Heaven
When God introduces you to me!

Walk with me and hold my hand

A Father's Miscarriage

You may not think I hurt
Or feel the loss the way I do,
Because as men, sometimes
We don't let our tears flow through.
 
But I marked the date on my heart
In a marker that cannot be erased,
And then suddenly
The loss of our expected child I faced.

I had pictured in my mind
How this little one would look,
How we would go for walks
And I would read him story books.
 
But that was not to be,
And my heart is racked with pain—
Although some would reassure me
That I will have the chance for fatherhood again.
 
But as the day approaches
I feel just as passionate about this little one
As I did right from the start
Because their name is there still
forever written on my heart.

Beautiful work, Miss Thena. You are so right, fathers are just as important and in need of our gratitude as mothers. Society has thrown fatherhood by the wayside, but without them how would our daughters learn that they should be respected by the boys they date, or our sons learn to develop goodness of character? Their place in the home is a necessity, not a privilege. As you can see, you have hit a soft spot with me, but it gets under my skin the way fathers have been devalued in our society.
