ODE TO THE AGING
Remember when you would romp and play, And thought your youth would always stay?
Remember when you could run the mile And meet the finish with a smile?
Remember when you had lots of hair, And fixed it up with so much care?
Remember your skin when it hadn’t a line? You’d look in the mirror and say “I’m lookin’ fine.”
How ‘bout those eyes that could focus afar, You could read all the signs when you’d drive in your car.
Your Dentist would say “Your check up was great! No problems here, no tartar to scrape.”
And what about sports, you sure could compete, “He’s on our team!” yelled the kids on your street.
“OH what memories.” you say, as you let out a sigh. Or maybe you don’t. Has your mind gone awry?
You’re aging my friend, but you don’t need to fear I’ll tell you some things you’ll be happy to hear.
Those little laugh lines that you’ve noticed you have, They’re wrinkles my friend, and they don’t look that bad.
So don’t worry too much about if you look good, At your age, no one expects that you should.
Remember, the mind is the first things to go So you’ll need to keep notes to make your life flow.
And speaking of flow you may need those depends To keep up with life and to keep a dry end.
You may need a cane for your walk through the mall As a tool to assist you back up when you fall.
Here is a product you may need the most, It’s one of those creams that keep dentures close.
Cuz sometimes my friend, if you laugh, sneeze or cough, Your teeth could fly out and turn your friends off.
Think you’ll be bored or have no time for fun? Don’t worry; just go for a shuffleboard run!
And hey, at McDonalds on Tuesdays at 1:00, They play senior bingo! Its food, folks, and fun!
If that doesn’t suit you, in two years or three, You can join up with the A.A.R.P.
Keep in mind, though you’re old and your hearings’ worn out, I still can hear, so you don’t have to shout.
Though your aging dear friend, I still think you’re swell And I’ll visit you often when you don’t feel well.
I come cheer you up, like this poem here has done, And I’ll be at your funeral when your time has come.
So smile, mind your manners and don’t make a fuss, Be sweet as can be, you little old cuss.

| I love it! You have an eclectic talent in writing. My mother loves getting older. She thinks of it as a badge of honor. I hope to be just like her someday. These really made me laugh: And speaking of flow you may need those depends To keep up with life and to keep a dry end. Cuz sometimes my friend, if you laugh, sneeze or cough, Your teeth could fly out and turn your friends off. So smile, mind your manners and don’t make a fuss, Be sweet as can be, you little old cuss. |
