No more and no less than those others
i bear no chocolate glazing
i harbor no cream filling
the last to be chosen
cast aside…
by those who cannot make up their minds
sitting in a lonely corner on a pastry tray
Someone is reaching out to me
i am filled with excitement and anticipation
“oh just wait till you taste my toasted coconut,
savor my comforting, sweet chewy goodness…”
But oh my goodness!
Again the more colorful win the day
Perhaps it’s true what I’ve heard say
“some people eat more with their eyes
than any other way”
i’m not much to look at i know
a little swirl
a drab brown and tan
but i like to think that even in some small sense
i’m part of a bigger plan
How can i compete with petit’ fours
mini-eclairs
cannolis
diminutive lady fingers and swiss rolls
Suddenly i hear:
“oiy’ vey…they must be meshugana!,
vat’ a crime this is…
one poor little macaroon!”
“i vil’ read from Lamentations Chavter Vun’ voierce one (1:1)
Jerusalem, once so full of people, is now deserted.
She who vuz’ once great among the nations now sits alone like a vidow.
Once the Queen of the earth, she is now a slave”
“Err..ahem…sweetheart please forgive my Grandfather He has a flair for the dramatic…DON’T YOU RABBI?!
He’s a little hard of hearing too…”
Rabbi Levi, gently picks up the last macaroon cradles it in his hand a moment and says:
“Never you mind those two…kids vat’ do dey kno’ ah?
you…i do not eat…you i take home to keep. Come vit’ me my forlorn little bubula for we are two of a kind in many ways.
You are most special in my eyes, come home with Poppa..aleh katon sheli (my tiny little leaf.”
