Habakkuk 2:20
Silence is NOT
the absence of sound,
but the absence
of the sound of man.
The noises of nature
are compatible with silence
as God's Presence
fills the land.
Silence can embrace
the sound of the wind,
a thunderstorm
or just a slight breeze.
Silence can be full
of the murmuring
of mountains,
and the rustle of dancing leaves.
Silence is not affected
by the twittering of birds
And their beautiful,
throbbing songs.
Nor does it resent
the chattering of squirrels
and the crickets
who sing along
The sound of the gull
or albatross
and other winged
creatures that soar,
no more disturb
the restful silence
then the wave
that meets the shore.
Decaying limbs
that fall to the ground
to nourish
the forest floor,
do not disturb
the silence of the earth
but replenish
nature’s store.
Silence is golden
and merits great esteem,
as Moses’ staff
and Aaron’s rod;
for in this silence
the soul of man
communes with
The Heart of God.
