Our God Became an Animal

Born in might and majesty- ferociously noble,
Of blood lined royalty and legal lordship He was the lion born in a stable.
A mane of divine splendour, gold and rightly pure,
Wrapped around His perfect face. To sin, the only cure.
In swaddling cloths where sheep are fed, the lion calmly lay.
Under the light of David’s Star, the very Son of Day.
This same King of the canopy, crafted in God’s will,
Would in only thirty years become the scapegoat killed.
The lamb of spotless sacrifice the lion would become,
Adorned with jewels and riches, by His death hope would be won.
A sweet transposition, an inconceivable exchange,
ABBA father’s heavenly son for our life by death was claimed,
Humble and courageous that lion took our sin and shame,
Becoming the lamb our God descended. Human He became.
Just to show how much He loved we- His dearest ones,
Beyond the eve of Abraham, He gave the Cup to His own son.
But in deepest adoration, He purchased you and me,
No longer lion; a murdered lamb, became an eagle, our protection in His wings.
