How I Got Published

I'm brand new here but wanted to share what happened with my work.

I had so many poems that I had written that once I became adequate in using the internet, I created a site and place about 300 poems on it to protect them in case of a computer crash. A great number of these I had created for my scrapbooking friends and they covered everything from Angels to Zits. A new publisher was surfing the web looking for some verses for a book she was creating. She called me, we hit it off, we chatted and the next thing I knew we were meeting to discuss my book. I have 7 books with Bluegrass Publishing.

I had so many poems and stories to tell that I have been using Blurb.com. It is free to use, easy to do and you set your own price. I have a number of projects with them.

I have my first e-book (on pets) coming out with Comfort Publishing soon.


I would advise you to pray and seek God's timing and then share with others. If I had not shared my work with others I would not have had the fun of being published.

PS I got a job writing online by being on a message board. The owner of another company saw me sharing and asked me to write an article for his company ...I wrote articles for him for 9 years until I retired. I got a job writing for a magazine in the same way.I wrote for them for a couple of years and then parted in good terms with them in order to take more time for myself and my health.

So, I say sharing is a big key.

Thank you so much for the tips and pointers! I too, have tons of material that I would love to get published, however, its like finding a needle in a haystack.....and leaves me slightly pexplexed! I have decided to sit back and wait upon the direction of the Lord....I know He will never lead me in the wrong direction!

Thena I think you were sent here for people like mmiller. After reading your story The Bottom of the Barrel. I can say this I am not a writer but I am a reader. Your descriptive talent that you used in that story was impeccable it was grade A number one stuff. After reading that story I felt like I had just spent time in the barrel and when you wrote the barrel had turned upside down I actually felt claustrophobic. I almost felt compelled to take a shower after reading this work of art.

Years ago, I went to a prayer meeting at my church and the speaker prayed for me and said
that someday my work would be published because God had given it to me. It didn't happen immediately, in fact it was years lager, but it happened when I wasn't even concentrating on that part, but just on sharing with others.
