STEWARDSHIP
By Jan Phillips
For those who do not know me, my name is Jan Phillips and I am a child of the living God. That means I now have stewardship over many things and my entire life.
In general terms I believe stewardship means to take care of any thing in your care such as house, car, money, etc. Most people who think of stewardship in Christianity think of it in terms of tithing. That, of course, is one of the major parts of stewardship, but there is oh, so much more to it than that.
For the believer in Christ, your stewardship encompasses everything in your life. That is because He gave it all to you in the first place. And I haven’t always been a good steward with my money and didn’t tithe for a long time, so He took that stewardship away and I struggled financially until I came to my senses and started tithing again, so He blessed me with enough money to pay my bills. I am not well off by any means, but when I give, He gives it back.
God gave me the ability to write well, especially poetry. But for a long time, I didn’t use that ability to glorify His name, so that stewardship was lost to me as well. When I decided to write about God and the Glories of God, He gave it back and now I have that ability again, better than before. Each of us has been given a special talent that God expects us to use to glorify his name. If you don’t use it, you lose it.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but since God gave it to me in the first place, the very least I can do is use it to His glory. I have lost many opportunities over the years because I was not a good steward over a particular opportunity in my life. I have failed to be as good a witness as I could be, but I am trying to do a better job at that. I don’t read my Bible enough, so I am trying to do better at that as I don’t want to loose stewardship over being able to witness with the word of God.
God has been so good to me and given me so much. But, the more He gives me, the more He expects of me in return. I pray I can be the good steward He expects me to be. I guess maybe I am better than I thought I was or He wouldn’t be giving me more to take care of for Him.
I believe the most important stewardship he gave us was over the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ. What we do with that blood is the most important decision we will ever make. If you choose to be saved by the blood spilled on the cross and if you believe Jesus Christ arose from the dead to ascend in to Heaven, then you have stewardship over that blood. What are you going to do with it?
I’m working on getting my spiritual house in order and trying to make it squeaky clean because Jesus will be back and no one knows when. My advice is to get ready because the day and hour could be at hand and if you haven’t been a good steward with your spiritual life, you just might miss the boat on this one.

very well said. This was something that I have really come to terms with in the last couple years. Thank you for being bold enough to bring it out.

Amen. Many of us have trouble with responsibility, and when we look at it from the point of view you just spoke of, it brings a whole new light on it. Thank you for your message. It is well received.
