This is a song I wrote a bit ago. The premise of the song is something I have struggled with in my own Christian life. I get so wrapped up in trying to "live the Christian life" on my own. I want to "fix" myself, as it were, and always end up failing in the end. This song was something on my heart that Christ is constantly waiting for us to return home to Him and let Him change us. The Christian life is only possible with Christ and all Christ wants is our honesty and submission. He is ALWAYS waiting for us to come home into His loving and open arms. I hope these words speak to you as they do to me! Let me know what you think!
Come Home
God, I’m so over trying to fix myself.
I can’t do this, not without all your help.
It’s an everyday occurrence, it’s my new routine.
Unbreakable habits display my needs.
I find myself struggling to press on for you,
Forgetting these truths I’ve been told
Then I hear you say,
Oh please come home, come home to me
Why can’t you believe, I am all that you’ll ever need?
I’ll take your burdens,
I’ll make them light.
Just come right home
Just come right home.
Return here tonight.
God, I never truly gave this heart away,
Take my life, take my will, take this day,
Surrendering my useless attempts to survive,
Giving up all these things I once called mine.
I find myself struggling to press on for you,
Forgetting these truths I’ve been told
Then I hear you say,
Oh please come home, come home to me
Why can’t you believe, I’m all you need?
I’ll take your burdens,
I’ll make them light.
Just come right home
Just come right home.
Return here tonight.
Lifting me from my derogation,
Providing me with your salvation.
Search my soul, and replace my will,
I’ll follow you, I have this void to fill
I long to hear, for the life I was lent,
Well done my good and faithful servant.
Lend me the strength, from the life you gave,
I turn your direction as you say
Oh please come home, come home to me
Why can’t you believe, I’m all you need?
I’ll take your burdens,
I’ll make them light.
Just come right home
Just come right home.
Return here tonight.
