Deuteronomy 26: 18a and the Lord has declared this day that you are his people, his treasured possession as he has promised
How does anyone or anything achieve the status of a treasured possession? There might be a number of ways this is done. For instance, if someone sees something they really like and pays a high price for it, they will own because of the high price, a treasured possession. Or lets say someone already owns an object and likes it so much that he decides to assign a high value to it. By making that decision he is the owner of a treasured possession. Or better yet the owner crafts this object, like a piece of art, just to have something to enjoy and give attention to. By the fact that he invests time and energy for a purpose raises the value of the object, lifting it to the status of a treasured possession.
Best of all, what if someone purposefully creates a work of art that is like a garden, not only to enjoy but to grow, nourish and protect. But then, through no fault of his own, the artwork is stolen and damaged. This, though, is not the end; it only intensifies the owner’s affection and the lost artwork’s treasured possession status. Now the owner has to pay a price to redeem and restore his work of art. He pays the price willingly. He ends up paying for it with himself. And so by this great cost we become his treasured possession.
