I'm Just a Gentle Poet

Lord, I'm just a gentle poet-
In a world that is moving so fast
Rushing toward temporal things that will not last.
How can I as one who is not physically strong,
And not counted as intellectually gifted,
Do my part to change a wandering path,
Or help heal a wounded and damaged heart?
I know that you have those who help
Whose intellectual abilities are among the brightest
And whose footsteps are among the lightest
In races on earth and in flights to space
And I'm just an aging little face
That sometimes can only offer a poem and a smile,
In hopes they bring comfort for a short while,
Or a silly little riddle to bring a tiny grin
To someone who longs to smile again.

Don't underate yourself or measure your talent by other's. Gentleness is a gift like a nurse who tends to an ailing patient with kindness in a hospital. We all serve in different ways with different voices. I draw strength and hope and encouragement by simply knowing you exist and demonstrate the tenderness kindness and Humility of He who came to serve. Myself, well I'm a product of a hurried madcap reality N.Y.C., but now I live in serene surroundings and would never trade the country life for city life.

I have struggled with the same feelings about my work. My favorite readings are in classical literature, and I would continually compare my meager writings to theirs and feel so inadequate, until one day the Lord spoke clearly to me. He said, "I already have a J.R.R. Tolkien and a C.S. Lewis, and I don't need any more of them." We are all given a special talent in different ways for a unique purpose. We just can't always see them sometimes. It's like the story oneagleswings posted about the cracked pot watering the flowers. I know your work has watered my dry places many a time. Don't ever stop writing. It would be a loss this world desperately needs. Don't let the little doubting voices in your head convince you of their lies.
