On a calm windless day
in a quiet place outdoors
my sanctum...
where i often go to pray

time passes slowly here
i bow my head close my eyes
meditate on you
think of your goodness
bask in Your Peace
then i hear the soft rustle of palm leaves

i feel a shiver
far from fear
my heart melts
into tears

i hear the mourning doves
draw near
wings flapping the sounds of their arrival
distinct familiar clear
for a moment i open my eyes
they seem to stare
curiously
i smile at them
and continue my silent prayer

in your presence
so many words come to mind
i search them all
only to find
they would only get in the way

they are very vocal when they're hungry...then they stay awhile and serenade after feeding in gratitude same as the cardinals who will also sing after eating and will also be very loud when they are hungry!!
