Christmas Day has come and gone
And the packages all have been unwrapped.
The turkey has been gobbled down
And the older folks have napped.
The little kids have squealed in delight
After getting parents up for Santa
At the first sign of light.
The animals, the pets, both dog and cat,
The gerbils, guinea pigs (and other "rats")
Have all been spoiled a tiny bit
(With puppies in costumes that don't quite fit)
With suitable treats for each tiny pet
So they know their owners didn't forget.
Bows, ribbons, boxes and bags are all now trash
As well the ones from Christmas past
And will be put outside on the curb
With the newest green rules carefully observed.
Family members to the airport and trains have been transported
And sent lovingly on their way back to their homes
While the hosts are once again on their own.
Nativity sets and tree top angels are carefully put away
Making us dare to wonder
Will Jesus be remembered before the next Christmas Day?
