Once I had a pity party
And everybody came.
I remember well the guest list-
I can call each one by name…
There was Ms. Self-Pity
And her sister Woe is Me
She was holding the baby Grumbles Much
Bouncing him upon her knee.
My frequent guest
Ole Sad of Face
Was in their favorite chair
Although she had to relinquish it
To her elder Lack of Prayer.
Well, we all sat around together
Felling sad and blue
Until something happened
That made me mention You!
But at the name of Jesus
All my guests began to leave
Even baby Grumbles
Who had been tugging at my knees.
But the room seemed so much brighter
Once my guests had all gone home
And I began to talk to you, Lord
Since I was all alone.
You told me that these friends
Would only pull me down
And they would always leave me
If you came and stayed around
You introduced me to some new friends
That would far nicer be
And they would welcome you
As they would strengthen me.
Miss Encouragement came and took her chair
Along with her was Fervent Prayer
And in the place where pity had reclined
Was firmly entrenched More love like thine.
And you, Dear Lord
Brought Joy and Peace
And Cast all Your Cares on Me
And with them came Blessed Assurance
And also Victory.
And then You turned and said to me
With such love and compassion
That I can still see
If you have a need
Just bring it to me.”
There is no need to feel discouraged
There is no need to feel alone
If you have a problem, child of mine
Just bring it to my throne.
