First Turkey

I bought a lovely turkey-
(You would recognize the brand).
I was doing the holiday dinner
And it was going to be grand!

I thawed it out so carefully
And put it in to bake,
Read all of the instructions
About how much time it would take.

When I took it to the table
Everyone was so impressed
About the golden brown holiday treat
That I was basking in my success!

But they noticed that the gravy
Had no giblets in it that day
And that none had been included
Was all that I could say.

Hubby did the carving
As we waited patiently
And we gasped out loud
As he handed the giblets to me.

Still nestled in the turkey
Where I didn’t know to look
Was tidy little package
Of things that didn’t cook…

I was 20 when this happened (newly wed) and I'm 66 now. :-)

We learn and learn( my case relearn) You are precious to share that. My 1st wife forgot to take the wrapper of a frozen pizza once. Looked like a brown pair of binoculars. I got in trouble for laughing too hard.

I once bought a frozen pie and the instructions said:

Thaw for hour and cook for 20 minutes....

I read the instructions wrong...yep...thawed 20 minutes and cooked 1 hour...

As a professional baker I have seen tons of kitchen mishaps. I giant batch of cookies with 20 pounds of salt not sugar, blueberry bagels baked black, bread with no yeast...the young and the old alike, none are safe from over confidence and lack of vision. :fruit cake: :Oreo: :cookie monster

For my wife's birthday I made a dark chocolate truffle parfait cake. Entirely from scratch.

worship, i said to her :"you'll have to find a baker", a while back. she's more the 'icer' decorator type, baking too but enjoys the creative artsy part more.
