Could you lay down your life in such an egregious fashion Take the spit, and the fists and the furious lashes The taunts, and the heckles and the degradation Hang like a joke before an entire nation Take the thorns, bare the cross, or the spikes in your limbs HE did it all for us, without a thought for HIM Us selfish sinners who wouldn't even believe And the leaders of your people did their best to deceive Even Pilate proclaimed this man not guilty But we screamed for crucifixion with hearts so filthy Would you kneel in the garden, but scared for your life To please the Father, pay any price Could you heal a man who did you harm And a hand to the sword, could you stay that arm As you were paraded with mockery and shame Could you accept God's will and why you came Could you refrain from the desire to hate Could you forgive them because you knew their fate With the essence of life dripping off your toes While dice throws chose who would get your robes To the Father, " It is finished", your final gasp Could you be faithful and drink the cup of wrath?

Powerful, humbling piece. It startles the reader with the very first verse and continues to press all the way through. I love the boldness. Nice work worshipfreely.

Just came to me one night recently as I was dwelling on all that my family is dealing with right now. Kinda puts stuff back into perspective.

This was a powerful poem.. a great reminder for a most appropriate time. I often say that we in America are really spoiled...we get to worship freely - when there are so many that can't - their every day lives are spent in fear of finding and retribution. I do wonder (and pray) that I would be strong enough in him to stand for him should the time ever come. I know I would not - without his help and grace. Well done my friend... I really like this!

Yes powerful is the word for this work. Christ is Faith, He died so we could follow faith rather than laws.

Thank you sisters. Voice of Martyrs opened my eyes and showed me what the world is like for so many who suffer for their faith, Jesus was the first, but HE warned HE wouldn't be the last. All that I face is absolutely nothing ion comparison and just wanted to remind myself of the price HE paid for us. All glory to the Father!

At church I say word when most say amen. It's not cause of the street slang though, it's cause I feel the WORD of God speaking. Some like it, some don't. I live for the LORD and HIS likes. HE takes me as I am, thankfully.

That's cause you are one of the ones who gets it! That's why I am drawn to you and this site, so many clueless "christians" misrepresenting the Christ, we have to do our best to share the true WORD.

Be my guest, but we should switch it out with the other one that's up there. We don't want them to start piling up at the top. We need something new up there anyway.

It's not the before or after, but what it took to complete the work. I love it. completely powerful from top to bottom. Reminds me of a message I heard," Between the Cross and the Tomb" Really caught my attention. Massive instruction.

| This is a gut-wrenching personal trip to that hill of shame. Very well done, and in the economy and imagery of the best of poetry.
And then you posit, "But WE screamed..." and you take the story out of the historical and into the personal. "While we were yet sinners Christ died for us".
This is courage. This is living out the Sermon on the Mount in its highest order. And this is our Elder Brother, and the One upon whom we have placed our fate and trust. |
