| Broken Latch
Do others spy The broken latch On my white, Ford van As they pass?
Maybe the highway Of life is moving Too fast Within the current Of time to notice
Rattle and shakes She rumbles The thin skin Of her rusting body Speaking out As the bumps And concrete divots of The day repeat
A bungee cord Secures my bouncing Exit out The simple black rubber band Will hold for now
One steel hook Snares the window Frame The other clutching- Strapped to a protruding thumb- Like accessory Perfect for a hanger To dangle A company embossed jacket
My son watches The day go by Though the looking Glass of his choice As we travel To the state park
I don’t think He even notices The door is broken And ajar His eyes a dream
Ahh….. To be thirteen Again |

| Reminds me of my Dad and his pride and joy....his 100.00 truck that was pretty ragged...
He was so hard on cars (on the farm) that once he was driving to town and the A frame fell out of the car...LOL |

| i'll bet at least 1 in five of the entire American population has a "broken latch" of some sort or another that needs fixing (allegorically speaking of course). ...some aren't even aware of it, never know what could tumble out or what has tumbled in.
Nice piece.

| I love the vulnerability and rawness in this one. I've gone through much of life feeling like I've got a broken latch. I'm thankful that the Lord has been there to hold me together through all the "rattles and shakes." |
