| He Took Him Aside
Jesus wanted to heal the deaf and dumb man (Mark 7: 32-36).
Crowds were gathered. They had heard the rumours of this marvelous healer rabbi. They pressed in from every side. Giving His disciples a real challenge in keeping order.
But Jesus managed to take this one man to a quieter place aside. There he smiled and looked heavenward and sighed. How much content is there in that one sigh! The Master was physically weary. He was pained by the people’s constant frenzy for signs and wonders; for their relative impatience with words of truth. He saw the lonely, frustrating plight of this man, exemplifying the fallen plight of all men. And He sighed.
And He handled the man, ears and tongue. Spittle was applied to spittle.
And He spoke “Ephatha” (be opened). And Heaven heard, and the anointing operated (Acts 10: 38). Healing came…quietly.
This is our Saviour. This one crushed the serpent’s head (Genesis 3: 14, 15). This one heard the plaintive cries. He still hears. Gentlemanly, always gentlemanly
