ACLJ’s Fight Against IRS Abuse Takes Center Stage at Reagan Commemoration

Last week, ACLJ Executive Director Jordan Sekulow was invited to speak at President Ronald Reagan’s ranch, Rancho del Cielo, on the anniversary of President Reagan’s signing of the largest tax cut in American history.
The panel focused on the ongoing IRS targeting of conservative groups under the Obama Administration.
The Santa Barbara News-Press covered the event:

“This topic could not be more timely," said panelist Jordan Sekulow, executive director of the American Center for Law and Justice. "As every day passes, more information comes out." . . .
One of his clients, Kevin Kookogey, president of Linchpins for Liberty, joined him on the stage— which was set up between Mr. Reagan's humble farm house and his pond, in view of the circular table where the president signed the tax cut into law. . . .
"Clearly, I was being singled out by the content of my free speech," Mr. Kookogey said. "Government clearly exceeded its limits. Apparently, I can become tax exempt, provided I don't speak against the current administration."

The panel discussed the ACLJ’s lawsuit on behalf of 41 targeted groups at the Young America’s Foundation annual event at the Reagan ranch.
As Jordan concluded at the event, "This is outrageous . . . . It would be just as outrageous if they had only targeted liberal groups. This targeting is abhorrent, unconstitutional and illegal.”
The more we learn about the IRS targeting of conservatives, the worse it gets.  We know the targeting is still ongoing, the IRS has done nothing to ensure target groups are approved in a timely fashion, the scandal goes at least as high as the IRS Chief Counsel’s office (an Obama appointee) and Lois Lerner, who it now appears was potentially coordinating the targeting with other agencies, is still getting a paycheck.
The ACLJ will continue to lead the charge to hold the IRS accountable.
