"We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord." (Rom. 15:2 NLT).
This is just another great command given in the Bible. Here, we are obliged to do two tasks: 1. Helping others do what is right 2. Building them up in the Lord. Many of us are very content when we are successful in doing something good. We keep the limit of goodness to ourselves. But we must realize that God wants everyone to do what is right. Many are ignorant about righteousness. Many do not have the necessary inner courage to do what is right. Many are weak in terms of doing good. Many do not know how good and necessary it is to do what is right. We should help such people to do what is right.
But how can we do it? There are many things we know about doing good because we see them in the Bible. We should share our Biblical knowledge with them. If they could not properly understand, we must pray to God to give them proper understanding. We should explain to them the necessities of doing what is right and give them encouragement through the verses which tell about the rewards of the righteous. We should inspire them to please and serve God. It is an urgent necessity in today's world that people who help others to do what is right should come on the scene and become the angels of righteousness. The necessary inner courage to do what is right comes only from the Lord. Doing right when everything is right does not need courage. But the Lord strengthens those who are in sorrow, to do good even at that critical moment. We should encourage the weak in the name of the Lord. We should pray that they get the necessary inner courage to do good. We should not keep the nature of goodness to ourselves but help others in doing good. Being strengthened to do good is a vital nutrient in spiritual life.
Many are weak in terms of doing good. The reasons for this are ignorance of the Bible, failure in temptations, unfamiliarity with good deeds etc. We should encourage such people to read their Bibles regularly so that they can find out the commands given in the Bible. When they are tempted and do not know for themselves what to do, the knowledge they gained from the Bible can help them to make the right choice. Thus, by keeping on doing good, they will become familiar with being good.
Many do not know how good and necessary it is to do what is right. We should ignite the passion of being a good person in such people. The first thing we need to do for this is being an example to them. When they see the nature of Christ in us and the contentment in our faces, they will be encouraged to follow Christ's example. When people see the blessings of the righteous, doors get opened for many to follow Christ. We should teach such people that God needs righteous people and that there are many who can be blessed and benefitted through their righteous deeds. Such a nature should be an implicit characteristic in God's people. When we do these things we successfully build people up in the Lord.
What are the benefits of building people up in the Lord? It shows our humility and our desire to be a true blessing to others. God is pleased with such people. It helps many in the world to grow in righteousness. Many others will be blessed and impressed through them. The world will become a wonderful place.
