I didn't have to die for my soul to be at rest

Blessed and possessed, my heart I truly professed

to my savior, Jesus Christ, who helped me pass this earthly test

Lest you think I joke, I can count off each arrest

and the name of each facility of which I was a guest

I've had house arrest, arrest arrest

been arrested from the east side to the wild wild west

They didn't honor my request to show evidence suppressed

It was called a stall tactic to have the court recessed

It didn't really work, but my lawyer did his best

I called him "Wall Street" for all the money I'd invest

I've pleaded innocent, guilty, no-contest

I tried walkin' out in a show of protest

I got an extra six months for the lack of remorse I expressed

though I suggested a year less just for bein' so stressed

I thought it was funny, but the judge wasn't impressed

Don't remember word for word, but I heard the word "detest"

I've been to court dressed, undressed, once in a bullet-proof vest

I wished I'd had a helmet, nobody aims for the chest

I shoulda stayed at my mama's, but I had to leave the nest

and ended up flyin' towards that criminal quest

I can laugh about it now, and I can write in jest

never did it for the court, but to the Lord I confessed

I went from demon-possessed to Jesus-possessed

and to this very truth I can attest

My sins were forgiven, my weakness addressed

and I didn't have to die for my soul to be at rest
