There was a road

There was a road that we passed
As we went to Grandmom's house
That would cause Mom to say
We will have to take that road someday.

It made the road seem so important
And mysterious to a child
Made me wonder what we would find
If we were to travel there.

My mom had family who used to live
Just a bit farther down that way
Down that overgrown bit of gavel
Where we would drive someday.

Finally the day came
When we took that turn instead
Of keeping on our path
And going straight ahead.

As it happens there was no excitement
To be found for Mom and me
And I learned a lesson
That some things are more fun
As an intriguing mystery...

So true, so true. As the ol' cliche goes, we shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

This brought to mind how much "bigger" the world seems to us when we are children. I went to visit the house in which I had grown up many years later, and it looked so much different through adult eyes. Great poem!

this is sooo true, sometimes the road just winds back around to the road you were on.
